Just wanted to know what people have to say about the climbing community in seattle. Is there a good local scene? Does it tend to be made up of gym rats or people who actually climb outside? Do most peeps travel down to Smith or up to Squamish, or do they stay mostly instate, like exit 38, leavenworth, vantage? I'm used to the communities in Chatty, Boone, and mostly at the New... Give me a warm and fuzzy! Thanks

Well, there's this one spot relatively close to Seattle called "Index", but I don't know if anybody really goes there.

I hear its not very good. Wink

Scene? Like does everyone date each other, hold petty gripes and top rope party the hell out of the popular areas on the sunny weekend?

Yeah probably...

We're all passive aggressive up here. Can be friendly as hell but sometimes we like our space. Usually when you want to climb you start driving east with a stack of guidebooks until it stops raining and then wander around in the bushes dodging rednecks on dirt bikes till you find some rock. You can always find a crowded area if you want too...?

Lots of really talented climbers but not a real scene in terms of dirt bags and the unpredictable weather keeps road trippers away... most people work and climb hard on their days off.

Right now part of the Index town walls are threatened with closer due to land ownership. I've been amazed at how the community is coming together to organize over this. Hopefully we can organize a purchase and save them from a future as granite counter tops.
