Any training tips for a city dweller living in a small apartment with little access to a climbing gym? Have got to the level of leading 5.10a/b sport routes and am trying to take it to the next level but don't have access or room for special equipment or boards (such as the ones in Eric Horst's trainingforclimbing.com web site). Am weight training at the gym but heard that they don't help very much?

chin-ups on your cubicle wall, don't laugh I'm serious! and while you are doing it try different hand positions. Crimps, open hand, etc. Good luck from a fellow office monkey.

Hmmm, repeditive(sp?) topic of late, eh? Well, like I have said before, I believe that you will get better overall with better technique at the level that you are climbing at. Less thugging up routes and more flowing. That being said, it requires climbing to get better at technique, either on rock or plastic and if you don't have either then you have a more difficult road ahead of you. Even getting a hangboard would be of use, but again that only really develops contact, grip and pull up strength. I guess I don't really have anything usefull to say other than good luck. Where do you live that doesn't have plastic? On the flip side, I am going to start a training program after I take some time off, while I don't claim to be a fitness expert, if anyone is interested in hearing about it or seeing how its going let me know. Thanks all, I'm based in Bangkok and as you may know Bangkok traffic can be hellish so getting to the one or two climbing gyms can be a haul. Sounds like the best way is to retire and move down to Krabi but cubicle pull-ups sounds interesting, does insurance cover damages? Just kidding, will see how it goes down with my boss.

I see you live in Thailand... Try the gym in your city, I found this using RC.com Routes: http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/gym.php?ID=1174 You know about this gym, you entered it. rrrADAM [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2001-10-29 20:07 ]

Like I'd said rather clearly, "traffic in Bangkok is hellish" and it takes me at least an hour to get to the gym here. Just looking for helpful tips not sarcastic useless ones.
