I'll be in that region within the next few months for an indefinite amount of time...just curious what the vibe is. where the good spots are to look for...any basic knowledge of the climbing in or around will be very helpful.

Climbing in San Antonio proper isn't much of a prospect, however there is some great climbing in the region. Some nearby limestone bouldering at Red Bluff, a huge amount of bolted limestone routes in Austin which is only an hour away, get your granite fix with sport/trad/bouldering at Enchanted Rock (1.5 hours), Camp Eagle has more limestone and a great river (2 hours), and more. Check with the guys at http://www.climbsanantonio.com and http://www.erockonline.com for the low down. There are also several large and active climbing groups in the Yahoo groups section. Just search for austin climbing.
