Here's a trip report brought to you by my friends and I at www.pullharder.org. We try to post amusing stuff. This one was definitely amusing. If you like the TR, bump it so that maybe we can knock "Pet Peeves" off the front page with some real content.

Great report of an amazing day.

Just stop bitching about how old you are at 30!

I know, I'm not that old, but training is definitely a challenge of body management to prevent overuse injuries already. I said I was lucky in the writeup, didn't I?

Smile

The rack was roughly a double set of cams in the small and medium size, probably up to #1 camalot, and singles in the tiny sizes. One #2 and one #3 camalot. We had a #4 and #5 that we used on just a couple of climbs that actually sat in the car a lot. One set of nuts, 7-8 2' Mammut dyneema slings with Trango Superflys, and we each carried an equalette with 3 carabiners.

Boy this is just what I needed to get motivated for my 60th birthday challenge in August. Great job. I did my 59th birthday challenge at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Arkansas but it wasn't nearly as intense as yours as far as difficulty. I wish I only had 30 routes to do this year! You might find my experience interesting. http://doubledbirthday.blogspot.com/

Wow dude that is totally gnarly... 59 leads in a day is ridiculous.

Nice trip report. You've inspired me to do the same - though I'll do my attempt at the New and on bolts.

Bout getting old. At the ripe old age of 28 I gotta say I feel old age catching up to me just the littlest bit. Oddly, its a blessing and a curse.

A curse in that fitness is no longer a given. If I go out boozing or eat like shit for a week, its gonna show and I'm gonna feel it. On the positive side, I actually think I'm a far better climber now than I was 5 years ago. The experience that has come with age is undoubtedly part of growing old but in an effort to maintain fitness, I've also become more focused in my training and diet. I've also started started running/biking, fingerboard training, and strength training. Two years ago my mentality was just....well shoot, I didn't have much of training mentality, just climbed a bunch and that was that. .

Defiantly climbing way stronger and better than ever before.

So true. I remember about 7 years ago when I went to J-Tree for 5 days and managed to climb 27 routes up to 5.9. I was so happy!

Thanks Curt! What else should I climb out there? Where the hell is Vector? I saw a good photo of you on it (maybe here?). I tried to hike out to it that same weekend and got lost....

Awesome!

I will look forward to the repeat on your 40th anniversary. With added routes, of course-- and all in the 5.11 and harder range, since you would have 10 more years to train. Wink

Josh,

Curt took us out to Vector one day, but by the time we had thrashed through all the thorny shrubbery, it was almost dusk, so we did not climb it. Looks amazing, though.

Can't remember where it was for the life of me, either.

Hey congrats on the 30! Must of been a hard slog!

We have a simular challenge here in NZ (our ratings are numbers so lil different) but its called The Quarry 1000... lots of 5.12=24 to 5.13=28 gear leads in a day... highest score so far is in the nine hundreds, nobody has polished it off yet.

PS: Nice pants.

Josh,

Vector is in the Loveland area of JT, just NE of Split Rock. It looks like this:

I'll take you out there some time if you want. I think I could still do it again, but I'll gladly let you lead this time.
