I own a Bosch cordless Annhilator 24v model 11225VSRH - 24V. A friend of mine is looking for a cordless drill to establish new routes too. He's considering a Bosch 36V cordless, model 11536C-1 - 36V. My drill, (that has never let me down and I am still happy with), cost me a bit over $600 five years ago and is about the same price still. The 36V model my friend is looking at is $485. I'm wondering, other than price and the new lithium battery the 36V comes with, why there is such a price difference between the two. Plus, if anyone own the 36V model, what the advantages are with said model. BTW, I was reading up on these 2 drills on mytoolstore.com

My guess on the pricing isssue is that when the Bosch Annihilator came out the only (or nearly only)competition was Hiliti, which was priced far higher. Since that time it seems that every manufacturere has jumped into the game, including cheap no-name knockoffs. Then came the downturn of the economy. Bosch was forced into a more competitive pricing structure to stay alive.

Beware the new Bosch Lithium batteries. I have numerous contractor friends that sate if you charge the batteries at the end of the day, rather than wait until they are completely dead, the lifespan is just a few months. Of you care about cash, pick up one sans batteries for $80-100 and wire your own SLA batteries in a fanny pack. Total cost for my 24v setup was about $100 w. charger & batteries. (drill was brand new)

I think I'll just tell my friend to buy the Annhilator – tried and true.

I love my Bosch 36 volt. I bought it last year from Amazon for about $580. It included 2 batteries. About 6 months after I got it I was 40 feet up putting in bolts. the sling I had it on broke. It slammed into the ground from 40 feet and still works great. The batteries last a long time...I am drilling sandstone. I can't say enough good things about it. JB

I like my 24v just fine. She never lets me down, even in bullet-hard Nuttall sandstone.

Although not a rotary hammer drill, I just got the Bosch 18636-02. It’s their top of the line 36v cordless hammer drill. You can get on the net for $200 and it comes with two batteries. My friend has the 24v Annihilator. I will let you know how it fairs up to his Annihilator.

The 36v will last longer and pack a bigger punch. I assume its cheaper just cause battery technology is getting cheaper. I own one and it melts rock like butta. Only disadvantage is the weight.
