1.) When that book comes out, I'd like a copy. That's a great resource to have. 2.) It's getting warmer out, and it'll soon be time to get outside and climb some rocks. I'm looking for a partner for the next few months until the end of May. I live an hour north of Philly, but am willing to travel. Let me know if you're interested. -AMC

Hey, I live out in UT and am going to be moving to the Philly area (close to king of prussia) this summer. I was wondering if anyone could give me some hotspots for bouldering and sport climbing. Also if there are any good gyms around that would be great. I hope there's something out there! Thanks!

Coming from Utah, you will be disappointed in the local climbing ;) Near King of Prussia your best bet for a gym is one of the two Philly Rock Gyms. I work in KoP and go to the Oaks one a few times a week after work. There is also Go Vertical in Philadelphia, but I wouldn't want to make the drive from KoP for that. The closest sport climbing is Birdsboro (45-60 minutes or so from KoP, depending on how you drive), a former quarry. The rock is of varying quality. The old stuff that has been climbed for a decade or more is pretty clean now. I avoid the new stuff on the "giant wall" because it was still exfoliating a ton last I tried and a big chunk that had a bolt in it fell off last season). You can get a sense of that from the regional discussions on it. A litter longer of a drive is Ralph Stover. Most people seem to toprope as it is easy to set up. Some climbs can be sport led, others take gear if you are comfortable with the rock. I rarely boulder, but have friends that like Haycock. You can check out the rest here. And don't forget long weekends at the Gunks ;)

Thanks for the reply...and for your sympathy! I'll only be out there for the summer (I'm headed out in May), and my work schedule will be pretty crazy, leaving only mornings till about 11 and Sundays to climb... How far away is Haycock?

With your limited time, it seems like haycock would be your best bet (45 mins away?), although there are a few tiny spots around philly that are only 5-10 mins outside the city.

Any word on when the book will be available? The website says "The book will be going to print in a few short weeks." The weeks have been loooooooong.
