I've been to the Gunks a lot, but never on my own. How hard is it to hook up with experienced partners down there? I was thinking of heading down for a few weeks over the next month, I would plan to camp at slime.

I've gone to the Gunks a few times with no partner and done well. It's not hard to spot that random person sitting around with a rack and no partner, or the group that is willing to split. Go for it!!

When you going to be there? I would be willing to climb on a weekend or two if you willing to put up with my weakness...Tongue (5.8-9 or so)

Otherwise drop me a PM around that time and I'll see if a couple of locals I know would be looking for a partner.

Good luck, and have fun!!!!!

Its pretty easy to hang at the deli and hook up with a partner. If you would rather see your portential partner in action before asking them, hang out in the Uberfall area of the Trapps, and try to work your way into a group.

You could always try asking online for partners. I have had mixed results myself in doing so. If you have a laptop, there is wireless internet at the Deli. I not sure if there would be a computer anywhere in town for you to use if needed.

I climb often during the week. When you know when you are planning on heading there, send me a message if your still looking for a partner and maybe we could meet up.

I've seen a lot of people hook up with folks just by walking around the uberfalls area like another person mentioned.

I'd do a combo of getting 20 or so potential partners lined out and then trying to hook up with random folks in the dead time. You can often find some school teachers who are looking for regular week day partners over the summer.

How is the camping at the gunks? I've never done anything but a day trip there, hehe.
