Hey, my name is Carly, I'm a student from New York, flying into CHCH July 2nd looking and hoping to climb. What's the best way to find a partner? Anyone interested in climbing, or know of boards that get more traffic or places to check out in town? Could do sport or trad, although I'm just starting to trad lead so I'd be better off following for awhile. Also, can you camp out around any of the crags, particularly Castle Rock?

There aren't too many climbers from Chch active on it right at the moment, but you can try posting on http://www.mojozone.co.nz anyway. The NZ climbing community is fairly small, so any contact has good potential to get you hooked up with people in a particular area. These guys are also worth contacting: http://groups.google.com/group/rocknz As you know, it will be winter in NZ. So, you might not find all that many people willing to climb outside Although, the winter in Chch is generally mild. So, as long as you pick your crags carefully, the weather doesn't pose a huge problem. Camping, on the other-hand, I wouldn't recommend in the winter. Especially if you mean Castle Hill, as opposed to Castle Rock!
