Im heading to Morgantown next week and Im very excited about some bouldering at Coopers Rock. I want to climb on tues./wed. next week and Im seeing some partly sunny days and some 30% chance T-storm days. Are people climbing out there this week? and next? Will the sandstone be dry enough? Is there some stuff to do in the rain? I know you guys have been getting a lot of rain lately. Thanks for the feedback.

The rock at Cooper is much different than the sandstone of the New for the most part. Much grittier and seems to hold moisture longer. Hopefully someone more familiar can chime in on that though. Might consider bouldering areas around the New as they dry super quick (within hours). Hawks Nest, Cotton Hill, etc. Plus there is the bouldering cave at Junkyark you can hit during any rains.

well I got a little bit of bouldering in and the most of the rock was dry. i couldnt get on four ton mantis though, but the sandstone there is bullet hard and i am planning another trip there in the fall. a fantastic area if V3-V6 is your level. tons of highballs. great setting.

If your coming all the way form Cali to West virginia, you should deffinatly take a day or two to check out summersville lake or the new river gorge. In the fall they start to drain the lake, and a boulder feild is revealed. Plus you could climb light sport on your rest days. WAY better then coopers, and its only about an hour south of morgantown.
