Easier stuff at the New  (North_America: United_States: West_Virginia: South-_New_River_Gorge)

My wife and I will be at the New in mid-July. My brother and his girlfriend will be joining us for a few days while we're there. My brother has climbed before and could reasonably handle up to 5.8 or so. His girlfriend has never climbed.

I'm looking for easy stuff up to 5.8 that I could rope gun for them and set up a top rope. It can be trad or sport; I'm comfy leading both. I'd like to avoid the crowds a bit if possible, but i understand that doing easy climbs on the weekend is pretty much asking to join a mob of people.

Suggestions?

Yeah, all the area with enough concentration of moderates will be a mob scene on the weekends typically, although if you stay away from the lake during late July it may not be so bad. Most people swarm summersville this time of year.

Junkyard and Bridge area are the classic most popular post for TR'ing moderates, but some of the newer crags have opened up more moderate sport opportunities with some quality. Tatoo wall is the highest concentration, with two 5.6's, one of which is really good for the grade (Bobby Deez Bunny). You have two 5.7's (butterfly flake and Shady Lady), two super nice 90' 5.8's that are jug hauls (geisha and mrs. fields) and some quality 9's, 10's and 11's if you get adventurous. It can resemble a climbing gym there at times, but I think you'll be aight late July.
