Just curious is if there is anyone out there who has climbed in Afghanistan? I am here now, and there is alot of cliffs. If you have climbed in Afghanistan, please let me know what area, so that I can look and see where it was roughly. Jinx

Jinx I was planning to cross Afghanistan to China from the small boarder to the east but have not find the proper info. I know there are some 6500-7000 meter peaks there and few of my buddies did climb in Afghanistan and loved it. what do you have in mind ?

ahhh just as i suspected, you're in the army huh? well, if you just so happen to find some time between patrol, guard duty and sleep, you might be in an area that has some cliffs you can climb. as far as camp, when i was in iraq a few years back, i just ordered some holds and had the company pay for it. at least that will hold you over till you can get back to civilization. godspeed

I was in RC EAST in 2007-2008 & in RC SOUTH from 2009-2010. In RC east we did a whole company movement up a 1500m face. It was a lot of scrambling and some short faces (20') but the danger was there if someone would have fallen, It would've been to they're death. In RC south I've climbed a lot of the chain of mountains that seperates Kandahar from arghandab river valley. Huge faces, multi-pitch trad (as if it would be anything other than that), but yeah it was a good time. The only thing you should consider is previous weather... In RC east it'll be 100 degrees one day and -20 degrees the next with 3' of snow on the ground. This being said the rock is poor quality and all routes are chossy as shit and gear confidence dropped dramatically. And bring your own shit. I talked my commander into getting some equipment and what shows up 100' of static rope and about 10 pitons. This followed by I need you on hilltop 1535 (beside rt. wild turkey in arghandab) before daylight, you guys will move out at 0200. I felt like throwing up. I love how they give you unrealistic goals. But on a more professional notion; don't show your abilities because then you'll be on every mountain ascent because you'll be the " subject matter expert", your responsible for the lives of an entire squad(+) of people and if its multipitch and you don't have enough rope for them to jumar the whole ascent then your gonna wind up with a whole squad (12 soldiers) at a belay station. A fucking nightmare, especially for the ones whom are afraid of heights. If you think your gonna climb something ridiculous buy the gear and get a canyon static to get your squad up once you find a good ledge to fit them on. It's best to have the gear than not especially when told to accomplish the impossible. P.S. the rock in RC SOUTH is like fucking razor blades. For whomever this forum concerns I hope my story helps if you got any q's just ask.
