I am looking to purchase a trad package. I have been looking online and have only found a couple of sites that have some things. Does anyone know where I can possibly get a trad package. I want it to include Cams, more Nuts, Biners/draws, runners, and Etc... Thanks for the help. more vertical miles to go!

Just buy everything separate, because then you can pick out the exact gear you want and you don't have to put down a ton of cash right away. Plus if you buy a package you you don't like something then you will end up spending more money in the long run. just my two cents But if you really want a package here is one that should get you started. http://www.backcountry.com/...limbing-Package.html

Yeah I think its a better idea to find out what type of gear you will need for crags in your area.. No point buying really wide cam's when all you got is skinny cracks.

Thanks for the help. more vertical miles to go! most any trad package out on the market has shit you dont need in it, which once you compare true pricing, negates any package savings. i thought about doing this when i first started climbing and quickly realized its much better to build a rack yourself than to let a store do it. one note: sticking to the same brand of cam (and other things) for a set purchase will often result in a pretty good savings- 10% or better, depending on the store/time of year.

You don't want a package. Just use spadout.com to find the items you want individually or in bulk orders. For example, buy all your C4's at once from the site that gives you the best price and free shipping.

when i first started trad, money was a big issue. i climbed on the durango's (last gen trango flex cam's) for a year and it was a great, cheap way to get in. later i bought c4's and they're unbelievable, but i sill use my old cams for doubles. http://rockempire.com/catalog?category=cams can't beat the price. esp. with free shipping and a free biner thrown in.

As was said - check what people are using in your area. Borrow other people's racks and see which pieces you like. Don't buy a package (tempting as it is) but do buy sets (e.g. a set of nuts all at once) instead of single piece by single piece. Buy your biners in a large enough batch to get a discount. Oh, but do look at packages to see what sorts of combinations are out there. Think about what size range you will be protecting (goes back to what people are using where you climb).

After a lot of research, I got the following to start with: BD stoppers #5-13 BD C4 cams 0.75, 1, 2 Tricams pink through blue (2 pink) TCUs #1-4 Trango Shark 4 x Dyneema 24" slings Extra carabiners Not planning on climbing anything that needs large cams right now, and that's about what the budget could support. I got free shipping on everything by keeping orders larger than $50, and really good prices by splitting between web sites.

looks like a great start, i would at least double the slings though even if your only going to be doing 60-100 ft routes your probably going to want to put in more than 4 pieces (unless your clipping right to the cams which has a whole other set of issues)

CS issues? or have i just been missing an obvious method of saving a few bucks at a time?

spadout.com is awesome - that and google shopping - they're just search engines for best deals - they don't sell directly. Different retailers discount gear for different reasons - last season, last item, overstock, discontinued etc. Spadout.com also has good gear user reviews and some good climbing reference section.

As an added thought, I don't actually have a list of things I'd never say to an Oklahoma prison guard, but if I did, "I've got a trad package for you" would be at the top it. Jay

You have a trad package for me huh? There is a lot of things that have been added to my list of don't say to Oklahoma Corrections Officer. However if you have an actual rock climbing package I would be interested in hearing it LOL. I took up climbing back in Feb 2009. I went to Roctown Climbing Gym in OKC, OK just for something different to do. Since then it has become a passion for me. I don't really like going to the gym, outside is 10 times better. This is why I need gear. It is my escape from all the crap we have to put up with in the prison. It keeps me balanced somewhat LOL. I have a lot to learn before I can start trying hard redpoints. I appreciate all of the help so far. My budget is roughly 400 bucks. I need protection. I have the pack, rope, harnesses, biners, nuts, slings (sewn/tied), webbing and etc. On a side note what in the heck do you mean by my type? "OWNED"? Austin
