Ladies, I have a strange poll here :) Getting ready to go to work, took my 2 minutes to dry my hair after I washed it. I always use a hair dryer after I wash my hair. (well, unless I am camping or backpacking, of course). My bf was getting a littly pissy about me taking long to get ready, and said that I am the only woman he knows who drys her hair before going out the door, that not a single woman he ever dated before did that, and that would be because they all did sports seriosly. I've been climbing for a few years now, and I climb pretty seriously, so can't call me a wuss. But... I actually never met a woman who didn't blow dry her hair before going to work in the morning, or going out, or what not. Ladies, would you humor me and take a poll? All comments are welcome! :)
I think I have used my hairdryer MAYBE 4 times in the 5 + years I have owned it... But I also have stick straight thin hair... and it stays straight regardless of air drying or blow drying. Since its so thin it drys fast on its own.
Ask him, "but did they look as good as me?" See, he is now obligated to tell you that you are, of course, so much hotter than them. Then you can look smug and tell him to shut the fuck up since no one looks good as you without a little bit of effort.
I don't blow dry my hair, but when I want to look good, I blow dry my hair and straighten and curve tiny strand of my hair at a time which takes over an hour to do. I know plenty of sporty girls who blow dry their hair and wear make up.

I got really thin straight hair, but there is a lot of it :) So, if I don't blow dry it - my hair looks like a rat's nest - its also pretty short, so you kind of get the picture. :) I don't mind spending extra few minutes to make myself look prettier :)
I've had periods when I was using hairdrier every time I washed my hair, b/c the hair style I had at the time was such that styling was required. if you didn't blow dry and style, it would have looked horrible.
Now I have just-above-shoulder-length hair that can be pulled back in a ponytail, so the only time I blow-dry it is when I plan to wear it loose, or for special occasions.
Oh, and also, I HATE going outside with wet head in winter, so I am more likely to blow dry hair in winter...
I used to dry my hair every day when it was short because I needed to or it looked like someone placed a mop on my head. Now that it is long, it air dries or I look like Rosanne Rosanadana from SNL.
I rarely dry my hair. The exceptions being not wanting to run around in the cold with wet hair, and sometimes if I need my hair not to be too crazy if I went to bed with wet hair. So, that's like.....twice a year? I dunno, not very often.
I'll dry my hair if i want to straighten it or go out, i like it better than an iron because it feels softer and doesn't smell as fried. But, this is like, 3 times a year we're talking about.
I lost my brush a few years back and haven't replaced it......and I shower before bed so I can make a great lunch in the mornings. (Why go to sleep dirty???) I don't wash my hair all the time and it's usually worn up. I work in an office environment and I do laugh a little bit to myself when I see girls in the summer blowdrying hair in 90 degrees and 90% humidity at the crag showerhouse. If we are talking fall or winter now, thats a different story.
I am not talking about a showerhouse in the crags :) I am talking about a normal week morning, before going to the office :) If I don't wash my hair and then blow dry it in the morning, regardless of what the weather is like - my hair just looks like a total mess, sticking out everywhere and no brushing can help that :)
My hair is too short to pull it into a pony tail :) And as far as hats are concerned... hmm... I don't think I have ever seen anyone - male or female - wearing a hat in a professional office... :)
I only dry my hair when I want to look really good or more often in the winter. I have shoulder length thin hair (but there's a lot of it). It has a natural annoying wave if I don't dry it so I usually pull it back into a clip or low ponytail for work. I'm really lazy and enjoy sleeping as late as possible before work, and my hair can take forever to dry. If my hair only took 2 min to dry, I might do it more often. Your BF sounds a little impatient, if you ask me.
my last reported use of a comb will be 6 years this fall. that was the last time my hair was more than 6 inches long.
in high school and the first two months of college, when i had nearly waist-length hair, i would blow dry my hair on days i wore it down, but most often i wore it in a bun, twisted up in chopsticks or pencils or whatever was handy. total porno librarian effect when you pull the pencil out.... and it dries in soft waves.

I actually don't blow dry my hair that often at all, unless I'm going out at night. My hair is pretty long and VERY thick, so it's a huge hassle to blow dry every day. I do love the way it feels and looks after I use the hairdrier, though. It just takes so long! I shower at night, so I usually dry it well with a towel and then let it air dry over night.
I also only brush my hair after I get out of the shower. and maybe when I wake up. I really only brush it in the morning if I want to spend 10 minutes wrestling the tangles (when they're going to come back soon anyway). Usually people can't tell if it is unbrushed, though, so I go without doing so as much as possible...

I only blow-dry my hair in the winter if I have to run out while it is wet. Other than that, never ever. I have very curly hair and it actually (I think) looks better when I let it air dry.
I am not the least bit ashamed about blow drying my hair every morning. If it's part of your routine, why should he care? It's your personal business.

Maybe you should start comparing him to your ex-boyfriends and see how he likes it! You could say something like, 'well none of the guys I dated before ever smelled as pungent, so maybe you should spend a little more time on your own hygiene routine.' I'm sure that would go over really well!
Sorry - I'm kidding. But I don't really think he should be giving you a hard time about it. If that's a big deal to him, what will he be like when it comes to handling a REAL problem?

Heh, we've been together long enough that I know that when he is picking on me for that kind of small stuff its his way of showing attention - kind of like in elementary school that boy who sat behind me in class kept pulling my hair ;) I was just curious how many other women use a hair dryer :) It is a part of my routine, and I know that I am incredibly fast at getting ready in the mornings :) I got it down to science - getting up, taking a shower, making real breakfast (not cereal with milk), making fresh squeezed orange juice, brewing tea, blow drying my hair, getting dressed and putting on make up all take 22 minutes total :)
If you can do all that in 22 minutes, maybe the joke was about using TWO FULL minutes blowdrying your hair! hahahah
I don't blowdry my hair, though I do believe there is a blow-dryer somewhere in my apartment. But I don't have a office job/tightly scheduled day, and have no problem going outside with my hair being wet.
Several years ago, when I had a shag haircut, I blew it dry to set the shape. But now my hair is just straight, and if I wanted to make it pretty, blowdrying wouldn't do much. I'd use some hair stuff to make a sleek finish on a ponytail and choose one of the rhinestone hair accessories I make, as an accent.
I run a lot and I climb a lot ... and I definitely do my hair. My hair looks grungy without effort. I typically have it done at night though so I don't have to mess with it before work.
I blow dry my hair almost every time I wash it (even on camping trips if possible). It also takes far more than 2 minutes since I have thick hair. But air drying for me equates to flat, slippery hair that is hard to work with.
I'm too impatient to blowdry my hair after every shower. I'd rather wash it at night and super fast straighten it in the morning, or wear it pulled back so you can't tell I didn't do anything to it.
Plus it's hot in Texas, standing under hot air blowing on my head is brutal. Ugh. Even in the house it sucks.

I bet you don't live in No. CA. I'm not sure I know anyone who does!
A guy that openly compares your grooming and sports habits to those of his ex's and lets you know where you fall short doesn't sound like much of a prize. Maybe you should start doing hot rollers or complicated braids after you're done w/ the blow drier.
