I thought I'd seen all the different ways of slinging a hex, until I stumbled upon this:

Why didn't I think of that?

Like that rock. Wish we had some granite around here.

It seems like there could be a possibility of those knots creeping or capsizing with such a short tail. Is there any advantage to this setup?

That is what I was thinking. And I can't see any advantages to it. It would seem that the bulkiness of those knots being up on top might get in the way.

Hopefully.....
because two knots are riskier than one?
because you can't cam that hex in a shallow horizontal anymore?
because you'll sweat and strain to cam it in a deep crack with all that junk on top?

I agree with joe and alpine, Looks pointless to me, those knots look kind of limiting, in anything other that the shallow vertical its in.

Looks like someone wanted to use an old piece of their dynamic rope.

Perhaps they heard the fact that you should always be able to create an anchor with just your rope if need be. And then took it too literally.

Racks better on the harness with the slimmer profile might an advantage?
Probably not enough to outweigh the disadvantages pointed out in this thread. Another disadvantage might be that it looks unsafe to use it for a makeshift runner in that configuration.
Props for thinking outside the box nevertheless, impressed me!

I prefer my hexes with the knot inside the hex.
To bad that only works with the biggest two.
