I'll be at Smith Rock August 13 and 14 then and am looking to get some bouldering in. any recommended spots? I definitely appreciate any feedback.

1. Don't climb at Smith during August. 2. Don't boulder at Smith.

if you have your heart set on smith in august, it is possible to chase the shade throughout the day to make your trip bearable. almost.

the dates aren't really flexible, but is it really just out of the question to try bouldering a bit while I'm out there?

Smartass comments aside, it'd be much more enjoyable to cruise some easy classics in the shade rather than try to boulder. The tuff will rip your sweaty tips to shreds.

I won't have a climbing partner, so I figured that bouldering is my only option given my time constraints. are there any spots to get some of that in that aren't baking in the sun all day?

There might be people at the bivy you could convince to rope up with you... if they are there.

looks like you lucked out, the weather is supposed to be fall-like. Probably be easy to find a partner.

You may have some luck finding partners or beta by posting on smithrock.com. Follow the shade for sure! If you're set on bouldering, there are better places to boulder near Bend where you could be in the shade.

sliding mike is right, there is better bouldering elsewhere, including the sisters boulders. fairly well shaded, ~30 minutes west of smith, and at a good bit higher elevation. and the rock there is nothing like it is at smith anywhere. really sharp volcanic finger pockets on some pretty high problems. super fun place.
