Anyone know anything about climbing in the USVI? I'd appreciated any info.

i actually just got back from the virgin islands a couple weeks ago. the good climbing is on virgin gorda, at the baths, and on norman island. it is really easy to take a ferry between the islands and customs arent bad at all. look up bouldering in the BVI on google and you can find some beta but not much. just go have fun. there is more rock than you could handle in years so just jump on whatever looks good. once i find a scanner i should have some pics posted up on this site so ill let you know.

If I go, I'll be on St. T, and going to the BVIs won't really be an option.

I went to St. Thomas, but I didn't see much climbing there. I bet if you look hard you could find some stuff. Learn to Scuba Dive if you go.

For what it's worth... I've been to both the BVI and USVI. The BVI was amazing, the USVI we couldn't get away fast enough. The water taxi ride between the two was 45 mins and it's really worth it. But as far as climbing goes... unless you're planning on solo-ing an ancient building, I didn't notice much climbing action on either island. If someone has beta to the contrary, I'd love to hear it!

Let me rephrase that: I didn't see any roped climbing possibilities when I was there. I know the spot on Virgin Gorda where most of those pics were shot. It's amazing, practically deserted for those of you who like to climb naked...(there was a thread on that a while back)...

Ah, okay. I'm more looking for boldering... keeping it nice and simple. Those Virgin Gorda pics are enough to make me blow all my cash and go down there ASAP. I really hate winter.

As a New England-to-Virgin Islands transplant, I gotta say that there just ain't that much climbing here. Yes, Virgin Gorda (along with a few little islands nearby) is the exception - beautiful granite boulders, very reminiscent of J-Tree (ie: mostly friction, with edges of varying quality and a few cracks), but the setting's a bit different... As for the other islands, the rock quality is generally not that great (ie: shitty). There might be some small exceptions, though... Last time I flew into St. Thomas, I noticed a little wall on a hillside overlooking the runway. Looked interesting, but it would probably take some serious bush-hacking to get to it, and it could be choss. Keep your eyes out for buildings with walls made of chunks or blocks of coral - often they're limestone-like, with pockets, etc... And speaking of limestone, I'll post yet again that the best climbing in these parts is on Puerto Rico, and, again, it's wicked cheap to get there, especially from the East Coast. Okay? Okay? Alright!
