When I see a writer characterize readers as 'my readers' I know that all is lost with that person. They have become writing sluts, typing what they think 'their' 'audience' wants to read.

Does Jeremiah recognize a difference between instructing at well-established single-pitch crags and guiding in more challenging environments? What qualifies him to call himself a guide?
Unless he addresses some of these fundamental concerns, I can't see any change in his treatment here. There are certainly issues beyond those, as well.

At the risk of catering to the audience:
Hear! Hear!
You have to write what speaks to you. You should write on a consistent level (within a piece).
There are two exceptions to the not considering the audience rule that I can think of:
Children's books.
Scholarly papers (where format and tone is constrained).
