I will be a Freshman at MSU in the fall, and am desperate to find some climbing. I read about some stuff just west in Grand Ledge, but are there any indoor gyms around for the winter? I also need a partner. Someone please help!!

jt512 pretty much summed it up. for what ever reason i don't understand there is no gym in lansing. Three to four gyms and hour to hour and a half away. but none in lansing. decent one in ann arbor.

Um, join the MSU outdoor club. Go to Grand Ledge. It's the only climbing in the Lower Peninsula. Places to drive to from Lansing that most people in Michigan go to are the Red River Gorge, the New River Gorge, and the Bruce Peninsula (in Canada). Grand Ledge is a great place to have fun and will keep you busy for a bit. I'm glad it exists and it's better than nothing. That said, I live in Colorado now, so I'm spoiled.

the chem building has some traverses and easy buildering. I've heard of people getting out to grand ledge mid winter when you get the occasional bluebird day. use the money you would spend on a gym to roadtrip.

Come on up and join us here in Batchawana Bay on some longer multi-pitch climbs as well. 5 hours from Lansing. "On-Rock" Noscc Areas are listed under climbing areas!
