Did you join the Navy to stay in the States? Get out and see the world. I spent the first two years of my career in Okinawa, best assignment ever. Now I'm in Korea again, just something about Asia.Cool

something about asia? or women from asia?
seriously, im with urban cowboy on this one though. get out of the country and experience a different culture. yeah, there's climbing around san diego, there's tons of climbing in japan too. plus you'll be that much closer (cheaper flights) to other countries to save up your leave to visit and climb if you like (china, thailand, australia, new zealand). i love sd but if you don't have a spouse and/or kids, travel out of the country as much as you can while you're serving. take every deployment you can, you'll thank me (unless of course the deployment is to afganny or anywhere in the middle east right now).

Well for me it's more about the women...but that ended soon after arriving in Korea the first time. Been married now for 12+ years.

But on with your other points...there's great climbing all over the world, might as get out and see as much of it as possible, right?Cool

When were you in Okinawa. I put up about 120 routes there since 2000.

I have to agree, travel the world on Uncle Sam's dine if you can.

As for Asia, well, I've been living in Asia for almost ten years. I love it. My Wife is Indonesian. We're living in Indonesia now, but looking for a gig in Malaysia in the near future.

Japan, China, now Malaysia. No reason to leave the region. I can live in Asia and vacation the states or Europe. The perfect life.

I was in Okinawa 91-93. Didn't rock climb then. I don't plan on living in the States anytime soon either.

ASIA! Lived in both places, and would not hesitate. San Diego is nice... but in the Go To Japan.
