I have c4s up through a #4 right now, but I'm looking to invest in a bigger size. The #5 would be perfect, but I have come across some older camalots (the pre-c4 generation) for a price i cant pass up for a cam that wont be used all that much. My question lies within the range matchup between the two lines of cams. I know there used to be a 3.5 and a 4.5 in the mix, and the old #5 is comparable to a #6 c4. So i guess I am asking if anyone has a list of the range for each of the older camalots, or which one would line up best with a number 5 c4. thanks

I know there is a cam range comparison chart in a thread on here. Try searching for it (I'll admit to being to lazy to look it up for you). As for the practical advice, the old #4.5 (Red) will give you a comfortable overlap on a #4 C4 and is a great cam. It's likely the most used of my big cams. If you were to compair it to a #4 Friend you would find you have very little overlap, but with a #4 C4 it would be a great fit. Edit: It appears MS1 is less lazy than I am.

Oh, I'm extremely lazy. I just happen to be a lazy guy with a bookmarked cam-size comparison chart.

DO IT!! GET THEM ALL. No seriously. I don't know how much off width you climb, but unless you have a deal on the exact same sizes for a better price, then you should get these. the old #4 is perfect, and nothing comes in that size anymore. the old 3.5 is perfect fists (for me) and it rocks. The old 4.5---see above. If the price is honest, then do it. Those cams are strong performers.

Here you go. These are absolute ranges given the min and max from the manufacturer and do not reflect actual usable ranges. edited: image fixed

That chart don't look right. I think you probably deleted an entry somewhere and forgot to make things match up.

Does anyone have a source to buy new pre c4 camalots? Or if someone is unloading used ones too that'd be fine but I want a full set from 3.5-5 if anyone has any leads. I got sniped in an ebay auction for a set of new ones of all of them and they dont seem to come around very often...

Should I find more than one of each...

You really only need the old #4. The new 4 is somewhere in between the old 3.5 and the old 4, but the old 3.5 is a #4 friend. The real differences are between the old 4, 4.5, and 5 vs. the new 5 & 6. BD knows that the published ranges are not the same as the usable ranges, so I don't know why they made this move anyway. Just reworking the stems was enough. Oh well, I'll keep my eyes open for more used 4, 4.5, and 5 camalots.

I don't need more cams, but sure as hell would like to have the options. The old 3.5 is close to a #4 Friend (I do have WC #2 through #4 already, though I need to re-do the trigger wires on the #4 again). In actuall use the old 3.5 seems to have a slightly different 'real world' range with compliments the #4 Friend quite well.
