I just got a black diamond Mondo pad ('09) and the padding is pretty hard. I bought it for my 100lb girlfriend so she would feel more confident bouldering after her ankle injury, but i think its too hard to do any good. The 09 model has a 3" layer of soft foam sandwiched inbetween two 1" layers of dense foam. I was thinking about just switching it to two layers of dense on the bottom. Has anyone else done this? Should i just leave it the way it is and let it break in?

I would just let it break in over time. My friend has a BD Mondo and once we broke it in it is great. Switching the foam around may help, unless the foam in the middle is too soft.

I wouldn't touch it... i've landed on them and they're just fine, especially from high up. they actually remind me of my local gym's flooring, which i've fallen on hundreds and hundreds of times. I really wouldn't re-arrange the foam, as you're increasing the bottom out potential, which is not going to help her ankle whatsoever. i'm not sure if you're testing it from small drops, but anything above five feet or so is where you'll notice the quality. anything below, and you can honestly land on anything. This is a good pad and will protect her (or most anyone) from just about any reasonable fall. if you want to test it out, have her take a five foot or so drop onto it first. you'll see exactly what i mean.

Thanks for the input Yea i'm just gonna leave it the way it is. Its already started to break in a little bit. I climbed up a ladder and jumped onto it a few times from like 12 feet, its much softer then it feels just laying on it.

Sell it and buy a Flashed Ronin. You will not regreat it! Smaller, but way, way, way softer. Ciao, E
