Herb and Jan Conn who cut their teeth at my local area outside of Wash. DC at Carderock and Great Falls VA. They then progressed to the choss mountain that all Mid Atlantic climbers love, Seneca Rocks, where they put up some notable ascents. I think after Seneca they climbed all over the country doing FAs in the Black Hills, Yosemite, New Hamphshire, etc.

as soon as I saw the names I thought "didn't they do a bunch of FA's at seneca?"
which is not bad for being fourteen and having only climbed there once

Do you want the real answer or one I make up to win free gear? The real answer while fascinating in and of itself is nothing like the story I'd concoct full of international intrigue a stolen cam from Angry, someone stealing the nuts off sungam, an ice axe buried to the hilt in the back of Cracklovers trunk and so, so much more.
So what is it? Real or made up? How much gear do I get for colorizing their lives insanely and making Jason Bourne seem domesticated by comparison.
Truth? They make the best loves of sweet bread just down the street. They stuff a caramel inside every loaf right before it bakes and it's wonderful. The lie is so much more interesting.

I just blew up my entire afternoon reading about those two. Gah! Jealous is a word I'd use. I wonder if we will make history seem rich the way our parents and grand parents did it for us. These two shriveled as they are stand tall among giants for things they've done.
Pretty cool!
I deserve the WTF though. I should have made the post I'm making now first. Not the "I'm a dumb ass." post I led with.
It still reminded me of the C.A.M.P. acronym contest a lot the way Dingus pitched it but poor taste on my part. If you Google on these two "here there be dragons" make sure you have something hot to drink and a few hours to kill. Just looking at photos of things they did or pictures of them doing them will swallow more hours than offwidth will cams.

One of their "Conn-isms" was, "We never ran it out, we just crept it out".
A great book about their Black Hills climbs can out last year by Lindsay Stephens with the cooperation of the Jan and Herb, "The Adventure Climbs of Herb & Jan Conn" with about 220 of their FA's in the hills. Many of their climbs have a colorful story that go with them. Their regard for clean climbing ethics and outright love and respect for the hills plays a song in my heart when I think about them. All these accomplishes on top of their long endeavors with the underworld is staggering.
I've ticked off well over half of their list of FA's so far and am still working on them. Many of their FA's are in what is now a wilderness area. Back in their day there were many roads that pierced deep into these areas which makes it a bit more challenging for me. But if I'm able to climb as long and as hard as they have, there will some day be an end to my quest to tick them all off.
