Anybody know if there is outdoor bouldering in Bakersfield city limits? I'm going to be down there visiting somebody (near Ming & Buena Vista) and wondered if there were any outdoor bouldering or buildering spots. Thanks. -Ralph

What about bouldering in the Kern River wash itself (I'll be staying close to the river). Any big boulders or exposed rock faces in city limits or in the river wash?

Yep...
Before entering the canyon, there is this place. It's granite and water polished, but fun and has several problems. You drive the dirt road on the left, the road is about a mile before entering the canyon. There is a dirt parking area. The boulder is in the river bed. If you get "California Road Trip - Climber's guide to Nor Cal" it'll have the whole Kern area in it with enough stuff to keep you very busy.

I believe it's off Rancheria Road, and it's aptly named... ready... Rancheria Boulder.
