I have a free tix on southwest to anywhere, but I was thinking about heading to El Potrero Chico, is anyone in the texas area considering this?

My schedule is really flexible, I can leave anytime as long as I'm back by the day before new years eve.

I would be willing to help out with gas.

I can probably follow 11's and I'm a strong 10 lead.

I'd consider other locations if anyone has suggestions

Ok, I've narrowed down my plans a bit, I'm hoping to head down to either Corpus Christy or Harlingen or even San Antonio some time during the week of the 17th and I have to get back by the 30th.
I basically need a ride, would anyone be willing to help out?

message me, or hit me on aim

p.s. if anyone is interested in going but does not have a ride, I will probably end up renting a car if I cannot find someone to hitch a ride with

Thanks,
Chris

If you are considering renting a car and driving it to the Portrero, make sure you clear this with the renting agency! This is crucial since most insurance companies won't insure you past 30 or 50 miles into Mexico. When we rented a car last year, we had to get a special letter from the company headquarters clearing us. Also, I think only a few of the companies will let you take the car that far into Mexico. PM me if you need more details.

Try texasclimbers.com
Many people from Texas will be down there this winter. I just returned from there and it was a great time. Be sure to find out about Luis' Tacos and Sat. night wrestling. Climbing is only half the fun of Mexico.

No clue on the car rentals. The bus is always an interesting option. I believe there is a thread on texasclimbers about it. Good luck.

Chris,
I will pass your note along to my climbing partner (Raul Garcia). He is from Monterrey and learned to climb at Potrero and may be going down for the holidays. He will be off on the 19th. I'll ask him to PM you if he is planning to go down for climbing.

My grandparents used to get a condo on South Pardre for the winter. In other words it's pretty dead, to my knowledge.
Have you looked into flying straight into Monterrey? Even if SW does not fly there it might save a lot of hassle.
Let me know if you need any other beta on routes or crossing the border and things like that. If you have been there before you can ignore this entire message.
