Hello folks,

As like most of you, I hear a lot about Chris Sharma.

But can any of you know more about his bio. What he does for a living or is climbing is profession... where is he from ... what are his training techniques...

Thanks in advance.

Happy climbing.

I'm not sure, but I think he is from California, and more specifically (I think) he is from Bishop. I don't think he has another job other than professional comp climbing, because he is really good and wins a lot of money. He also is sponsored by 5.10 and prana (and others), so his climbing expenses are often paid for. He won the world climbing cup a year or two ago, but he got stripped of his medal because he tested positive for marijuana in a drug test. Not that it's a preformance enhancing drug or anything...He also climbed Realization and rated it 5.15 (I don't think it has been repeated, so the rating holds). He is also, in my opinion, very cute....

I actually just did a tribute page to him for my web page class. You can go to the pages where I found the pictures, they all had a fair amount of info on him.

From what I read when he was 12 he told his told that he wanted to be a proffessional rock climber. He won the Pheonix Bouldering Contest when he was 14. He graduated from high school when he was 15, because he went to a private school, and has been a proffessional rock climber traveling the world since then.

He also climbed Realization and rated it 5.15

No person, other than perhaps the Marketing Department at Five Ten (witness their "Five Fifteenies" advert) has attributed a rating to Realization. While it is undoubtably one of the hardest sport routes around it has not been given a grade by the one person who's done it.

Now in fairness there have been other routes that have been rated 5.15 - Elfe got 15a but has been grossly downrated. Oruja got 15a but is discredited because of a bolted on hold. Akira got 15b but is discredited by many because it's a bouldery crux in a cave that leads to sport climbing, and it's chipped and glued. La Rambla Extension is the most recent route to receive .15a and I believe that it's a natural route though I'm no authority. Perhaps whatever shoes Ramon Julian was wearing are the true Five-Fifteenies as Ramon proposed .15a for his route but Sharma didn't offer up a grade for Realization.

http://www.rockclimbing.com/athlete/view.php?ID=c.sharma

Here is his info as found on this very website. When in doubt, check your options to the left. Under "pro athletes" you'll find Chris Sharma. And when you click on his name, his bio comes up  !! Cool, huh?

Sorry about the sarcasm. Just know that if you want to know the bios to Chris or any other top climbing or mountaineering athlete, look here on rc.com under PRO ATHLETES.

Seriously people, this site is a treasure trove of all kinds of information. You can find the answer to many many questions with a simple search on this site.

Yes Beth, we could all do searches or buy the magazines, but we wouldn't get to see our names in print like we're famous! Where's the fun in that??

BTW does anyone have Sharma's address, or maybe his Mom's? I have a lock of my hair I'd like to send him. Also can anyone tell me his favorite flavor of ice cream, or when his birthday is. I just know that if we could meet just once that he'd see how perfect we are for each other and we'd be belay buddies . Why won't he respond to all my emails, it makes me hurt myself sometimes! Arrrgh! I am ugly and stupid!!!

WHY CAN"T YOU SEE HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU CHRIS!!!!!

hmmmmm, Chris Sharma...... He's so drrreeeeaaaaammmmyy.

Since you brough him up.....I'm wondering if there's any truth to someone having said that Sharma blew out his ACL a few years ago. Since I just did mine in a month ago, it would certainly give me hope. Maybe that's what it takes to climb 5.15!

lets save the .15 for another thread--actually there are numerous others ones out there debating that....the question was bio info, not a debate about the rating of the .15a

rwaltermeyer-

The one person who threw out some biographical info made a little bit of an error by saying that he rated Realization .15a. I corrected that.

Anyone know about Chris Sharma, and whether he actually expressed a rating for the route he Redpointed in Pinnacles National Monument in California called Ubermensch, or if the rating was attributed to the route by someone else (Thornburg?)?

I have just finished reading the journal on climbing.com. It was f-ing amazing. I too have felt that closeness that he mentions but not with climbing; it was with running. It's refreshing to see such an accomplished climber being so insightful and carefree about the entire media and ego aspects of being a recognized athlete.

From what i have read in the mags.... Chris is from Santa Cruz CA. He is a pro climber, and helps out with various charities in his spare time... He delivers food to hungry, and elderly folks who cant get food them selves.

Chris is also a praticing Buddhist, in one issue of Climbing he even admitted to thinking about quitting climbing all together and becoming a Buddhist Monk.

As for training, I think he just climbs... In Rampage they show him training for the X Games by doing situps in the moving RV, then climbing a tree, then finally to get back on plastic, he climbs the giant plastic Dinosaur ( the one in PeeWee Herman!!!!)
