Not exactly a lab questions, but i figured if anyone would know the would be hanging out here. I was wondering if bolt hangers with a 12mm hole could fit onto a 1/2" power-stud bolt? Now i know 1/2" is larger then 12mm, BUT the bolt is only 1/2" at its widest point right? I dont really want to shell out the extra dollar per hanger to get special 13mm holes.

It depends on the hanger, but every hanger that I have used has an oversized bolt hole compaired to what it states on the hanger. I would suspect that the 12mm hanger will fit on a 1/2" hole just fine, but you may just want to take a bolt with you when you buy the hanger to make sure.

I dont have any local shops that sell bolts or hangers, so i'd be buying it all online. These are the hangers i'm interested in: http://fusionclimb.com/anchor-p-96.html They are rated just the same as Fixe hangers, but cheaper. On their website it says fits upto 12mm bolts. And on here it says it fits 1/2" : http://www.outdoorpros.com/...fe=2&cvsfp=32833 I've sent both an e-mail with the same question but havent got a reply yet.

If the one site says that it will fit 1/2", then I bet it will fit 1/2". As I mentioned before, every 12mm bolt hanger I have ever used will fit a 1/2" bolt just fine, plus you can buy them from the second site that lists them as 1/2", they are cheaper there anyway, then if they don't fit, you should be able to return them based on the fact that they were advertised as being able to fit a 1/2" bolt.

Older 12mm Fixe hangers do not fit 1/2" bolts. I did see on their site something about them being drilled to fit 1/2" now.

Yeah, I don't use Fixe hangers that often, but I know the current 12mm Fixe's do fit a half inch bolt.

I actually asked fixe this question directly and they said that the 12mm do Not fit with 1/2" bolts, and that i would have to purchase their new 13mm hangers which of course are more expensive. Somehow i dont really believe them.. I'm sure there are some 1/2" bolts out there that wont fit into 12mm holes, but the power-stud is not a full 1/2" at it's threads. I looked at the technical manuals of the power-stud, and go figure, they didn't say the exact diameter of the threads. I think ima go with Kennoyce and just buy the Fusion hangers. since they are advertising as 1/2" i really cant go wrong.

The pictures of the hanger look different on those sites. Check out the anti-spin punches around the bolt-hole.

Yea the picture with only three dimples is the older model, i'm pretty sure that if i bought them from that website they would be the newer 6-dimple, smoother edged hangers.

The answer to your question would be no. Here is a picture of a 1/2 powers on a fixe 13mm bolt. And one of the hanger on a regular 1/2 inch bolt. Ignore the shadow under the bolt. JB

So you're sayin i need the 13mm fixe hangers?? I got a 12mm hanger sample from Fusion (great customer service btw), and unfortunately it doesn't fit. Someone said petzl 12mm hangers fit 1/2" bolts, can anyone confirm this for sure?? I can get a way better deal on these then the 13mm Fixes.

12mm Fixe hangers work fine on 1/2" Power Bolts, primarily because the bolt shaft is only 3/8" diameter. That bolt is the "standard" bolt used by climbers and made by Powers. I have no real experience on how it would work with a Power Stud bolt, as that one actually has a 1/2" diameter shaft. I imagine that if they are now producing a 13mm version that it is probably to meet a demand for that size in conjunction with a 1/2" stud-type bolt.

That’s because it’s possible to place the hanger over only the bolt and not the bolt and sleeve. The bolt on a 1/2" Power-bolt is only 3/8" so you only need a 10 mm hanger. However I recommend against doing such for placing the hanger over only the bolt results in a lower sheer strength then placing it over the sleeve as well. But it’s not the end of the world if you do. Most of our ½” Power-bolts are configured that way and I have taken hundreds of falls on them.

you could always drill the hanger up a size and de-burr if they don't fit. kinda a pita though...

yes it most certainly is safe to drill out the bolt hole, just make sure you use cutting fluid so that you don't get the hanger to hot. I have drilled out 10mm hangers to fit a 1/2" bolt and they work just fine all though it is a pita.
