i was out climbing with a couple of friends from from the linville area, and one of them said that there is an unpublished 'guidebook' that covers routes at crags along 221 like "the dump" and "sunken treasure crag" and the one back up the creek from that rock that's all spray painted (i forgot the name of that one).
does anyone know of a *.pdf, or other format of unpublished guidebook, for those short little hidden crags of the area?
to save on posts: thanks in advance

bump

just to tack onto this what are the best published guides (or websites) for the 221 boulders, if there are any. My sister in law is going to App next year and i'll be driving 221 to go visit.

And is Hounds Ear the only area with sensitive access issues? (i'm guessing not but thought i'd ask)

good luck finding anything. I spent about 2 years trying to get a pdf of the topo for pilot before they released the new thing. everyone thinks that if they post the topo online these areas will become overcroweded. only way to get info is by knowing someone who is familiar with the area, which sucks.

Steve Cater put out a Sport Climbs of the East book long, long ago. It has some info on Morphin' Endorphin AKA The Dump. It doesn't include the newer, steeper lines. That's all I know of.

Not that it means much, but I lived in NC until the end of 2005, and this is the first I've heard of such a guidebook.

I don't think there is a guide out there at all. Go by rock dimensions in Boone at the Footsloggers Gear shop for some beta on popular sport crags or to get a guided tour of some of the area's classic trad lines. You don't really need a guide for 221 you just pull off at the gravel pull offs and look around for boulders~that's how everyone else knows where they are. All of the rock along that road is really good quality so the odds of you finding something worth climbing are pretty high.
