Rocktown in Georgia. I don't know if the road is open yet. It might be.

It was open, but the road where it blew out was turned into a creek crossing. Instead of a road with a pipe under it. Now that we have had another flood event it is probably washed out again. Seeing that the creek was probably way up and raging through the area again. I will call the entity responsible for fixing the road in the morning to ask the proper questions. It just may be a 10ft deep ditch again( very likely) but dont know till I call the ranger and other state run org.

Any word yet? I was hoping to get a group up there this weekend.

Does anyone know who the best point of contact is to find out about the road situation?

I know the contact for the Co. responsible for the fix. Will I give out the number? NO, It took me a long while to find the correct contact for the road. No I do not want their phones blowing up. So when I do call I get a bad attitude from the peeps. I will call now and post after I get off the phone.
I am not doing this to be mean I am doing it to keep the calls down at the place of contact.

Thanks for reminding me to call. I have good news and bad news for the climbers interested in Rocktown.

Good news they said the creek crossing has held up just fine. It is accessable with a high clearence vehicle. I.E. Truck or something similar. So the road is still in decent condition.

Bad News this weekend the Pigeon Mountain is closed for the hunt. I will post the rest of the hunt dates a little lower. The weekend of Nov. 14,15 THE MOUNTAIN IS CLOSED FOR A HUNT. This includes all caving, Lost Wall, and Rocktown....

The rest of the hunting dates are as follows
Oct.16-18, Nov.11-14, Dec.9-12
Also a bear was spotted near the Petty Johns cave about a month ago. So keep your eyes open for the animals if you are in the area.

I hope this helps and answers your questions. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask. Thanks
Lenny

So the last post here says that it's a creek crossing accessible by high clearance vehicles. Does anyone know if that has changed? Taking a trip up that way Easter weekend from Florida. My car is not high clearance, so I could just keep right on going to Chattanooga, but it'd be nice to know in advance.

Thanks if anyone replies.

I was there a couple months ago and you should be fine in any normal vehicle. The ones with problems will be "low-clearance" vehicles. A Mazda station wagon was there fully loaded and made it across, so unless you're in a lowrider I wouldn't worry about it. The creek crossing is just a big pile of medium sized rocks (baseball sized) and they pile together surprisingly well. The rocks are well above the creekbed so traction isn't an issue either.
