If you cannot get your vehicle up and down the Motherlode hill find somewhere else to climb. Some climbers are parking a the top of the hill and walking down. Parking at the top of the hill jeopardizes access. Don't do it.

Isn't there a note in the guidebook saying to park at the hill if you can't make it back up? Need to get rev 3 printed to remove that bit of advice. Or, have a fundraiser to install a tow-rope for cars :) My car hates that hill, but I use common sense. Is the weather bad? Has it been nasty the last few days? Don't climb at the lode/PMRP. Oh darn, I only have 1800 other climbs to choose from...

I have been up that hill in a 4 cylinder compact. Whose car can't make it up?

Ha, I stand corrected. My car (Mazda 3) takes a few tries to make it up if its wet at all. Otherwise I've seen everything from compacts to vans bottom out and stall in a pothole. Its us damn yuppy city slickers - we're used to potholes, but not these things you call "hills".
