I am looking for someone who has sponsored, or held a rock climbing competition in the past that may be able to assist me in doing just that. I would like to hold a climbing competition that benefits various causes. In a nut shell everyone who competes will compete for an organization or charity of their choice. The winners will win cash that will go to benefit the organization of their choice. Everyone that competes will have to pay an enterance fee that will be raised through family, friends and local business donations. There is obviously a lot of planning left to do, but I just wanted to get the idea out there and see who is interested. Locations: Boulder, CO North East... Gunks? Adirondacks? Happy Climbing Jenna

Good idea. Make a flyer, website/page, information email and start doing it. Get on the phone and start calling climbing companies. Ask to speak with someone who deals with sponsorships. The rest is up to you. Kinda like climbing...you can do it.

Hey Jenna, I am a member of the Central Texas Climbing Commitee we organize and run the Granite Gripper an annual climbing comp at Enchanted Rock in central Texas. It is great comp and a fundraiser that directly benefits the park. We have a comp but the purpose is to raise money for the park (it is a Texas State Natural Area managed by TPWD). Our system is a bit different than what you propose but I may have a bit of insight. We charge an entry fee for the comp but the competitors win prizes donated by sponsors (gives the sponsors exposure and gets their gear out there that way). Then the fees pay other comp fees and expenses the rest is donated to the park. Usually we have 100-150 competitors and raise several thousand dollars. Also selling donated items in a silent auction is a decent way to raise some funds. random stuff 1 You'll want to check with land managers as you pick a location some may require a permit or require you to have insurance to hold a comp. 2 Don't plan by commitee but have people willing to help you cover tasks/responsibilities, put them in charge of stuff and let them make choices. (ie. entertainment, food -if applicable) 3 If you hold a comp outdoors, find a lot of routes at ALL levels to encourage everyone to participate. Make categories people can be competitive in (for example an Intermediate level for climbers 5.11 & below) that way everyone isn't competing against the 5.14 people. 4 Food and entertainment go a long way, I have also been to and volunteered at the International Climbers Fest in Lander and it has great entertainment (slide show & such) some cool food things like the pancake breakfast. Makes it feel really fun to partcipate in some things besides the comp itself. 5 If possible find a good MC to keep people informed and pumped up. I have seen Timmy O'Neal do some events and he is pretty good. I am sure there are a bunch of other opinions but these are just things I have noticed. Also I sponsor some climbing events so send me an email if you get this going and are looking for sponsors or need other info james at owa dot com Cheers, James
