Hey all; I'm looking to do some road tripping over the christmas to new years break this year. How does the weather tend to be that time of year in WV? Is the new river gorge climbable generally? If not how far south do I need to head in order to find year round climbing? I'm from central new york, and haven't headed southward to climb ever, so any help/advice would be very helpful! I'd be looking for easy trad or moderate sport stuff. Thanks!

Honestly, it just depends. If you get some good sunny days that are 40-45+ you can have a great day at the south facing walls like Endless, Beauty and Bubba. If it's cloudy and windy at that temp it'll be miserable. I climbed every weekend spring semester last year because the weather was awesome. On the good days it may get up to 50 ish in December but you can probably expect upper 30's to upper 40's and maybe some low 50's on average for winter break. Check the farmers almanac.

Late in on this one, but PM me when you're headed in and I'll give you a tour of some "sunny and warm whenever there's sun, no matter what the temps" crags. mg

I appreciate the offer, plans are still in flux, so we'll see where we end up. Right now it looks like we'll be going a bit further south, NC perhaps.

Monday, just N of Franklin, climbed in T-shirt/thin tech layer most of the day, good dry rock (only one of the the non-essential holds was wet, on any route), sunny skies, and just a bit of breeze. Now, Tuesday, on the other hand.... BRRRRRRR! BUT... still managed to spend a good day out at the crags, nailing a moderate FA with Doc Goodwhack and working on several new ideas....
