Where in BC/Alberta should I move?  (North_America: Canada: British_Columbia)

I´m going to stay in Canada for 6 months (Jan-July). I´d like to be in a place with easy access to (in order of importance):

Alpine climbing (up to AD+)
Ski mountaineering
Trad climbing (up to 5.8)
Ice climbing (up to W4)
Offpist skiing

I intend to share a house or flat, preferably with other climbers. Living costs is off course also an important factor, and I´m not accustomed to high standards, although I´m prepared to pay the price for a really great location. I will probably have access to a car.

I´d really appreciate some suggestions!

Are you hoping to work while you're out there or are you just bumming along? Canmore is a good center of things I believe, big transient population. Lots of places to rent, but I'm not sure of the cost. Jasper is also right in the mountains, but much lower key than Canmore. Lovely town, but I don't know much about established climbing out there.

Canmore is probably the top choice that will fit your criteria. Tons of climbers living there and probably easy to find a place to share for accomodations.

Jasper is a good second choice but their isn't as much climbing so easily accessible (don't get me wrong, there's still a lifetime worth, just not as easy to get to). Additionally, housing in Jasper is a major problem right now and rental rates are through the roof if you do even manage to find a place. On the upside, Jasper is much quieter and has a more relaxed atmosphere.

If you're heading to Jasper, drop me a PM and I'll introduce you to the alpine climbing crew there.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I won´t be working at all.

Head for Canmore with your "link-cam rack" ! I agree with the others that is the place for you.

Thanks for the replies! I have looked into it and it seems like Canmore is the place to be! I´ll be moving there in early January. Maybe heading down to Squamish in June. I´m really looking forward to Canada. I´ll be studying courses offered online at a university, which should leave me with plenty of spare time to go climbing.

JP: I´ll drop you a line if (when) I go to Jasper!

Once you are out there, go onto the bow valley thread and hook up with those guys. Great bunch of people that love to climb.
