Has anyone ever found routes in Blackstar or Modjeska canyon in Orange County? There is so much land out there that it wouldn't be hard to imagine some dry waterfalls/cliffs.

I'm pretty sure there is nothing out there. Louie Anderson lives out in Silverado Canyon, and he told me that there isn't anything there.
But, if you find anything, please feel free to share.

I live in the heart of silverado, right near blackstar, and have been looking for new potential for a while now. I think theres something out there waiting to be found... anyone else near silverado interested in searching? or just bouldering

That's cool if you've found some good stuff blackstar. My impression also, was that at least the easily accessible potential stuff at base of blackstar was all on private land. I've seen a lot of stuff elsewhere that I thought had potential, and afaik is on forest land. Most of it would take quite a bit of comitment to get to though.

Ever try any lines on that boulder on the left just before you start descending down to where hidden ranch used to be? ;)

Has anyone scoped out the old el cariso bouldering area off 74 lately? I know as far back as 1995 it was being described as overgrown again, and was only 'discovered' pre 1995 after a big fire swept it clean.

is there any good problems on the boulder where hidden ranch used to be? and wheres the el cariso area? The only boulders Ive found in the canyons by my place are just lone boulders. I would love to find a concentrated area.

Well there's that one big boulder on the way up, that I've always thought might have at least one line. Then there's another one up the road from it as well (also on left as you descend towards old hidden ranch), that I thought...could have a line.

I don't know if you mountain bike but that would serve you well to have a look, or explore some of the more remote possibilities. Too far to bring a crash pad imho either way tho fyi.

There is one described in 'Southern California Bouldering 2nd edition' 1995 :(

Try this link and then click on page 97
http://books.google.com/...20cariso&f=false

You could piece it together with maps from google books if you want to.

That book also has the best descriptions that I've seen of what's at ortega including some probably forgotten lines.

Thanks alot... Ill order it as soon as possible... Ive mtn biked all through the canyons by my place and have yet to find any good boulders. If you go down Black Star Canyon, at the very end of the street, there is a hill covered in boulders with a giant cross on it. It looks like a hard and long approach but might be worth it. Has anyone checked it out?
