I have the BD mondo pad which I like for all day close to the car bouldering. Looking for something smaller to take when I want to be more unobtrusive, or to throw in the car for just in case, or for longer approaches etc. Any favorite pads in the smaller & bit lighter department that you like? thanks

I needed something smaller and lighter for backcountry, so I had Josh, at Organic, put pack straps on one of the Briefcases. I like it so much more than my Metolious, and it's so much easier to lug around, that I find myself using it as first choice an awful lot. Way better than the Franklin.

Hmm cool I'll have to take a look at the briefcase model, hadn't looked at that. thanks

I have the Franklin/black diamond Satellite and like it alot. I'm sure you can get something similar for cheaper but i got mine off Steep and cheap for <100 a few years ago. Shoulder strap in "messenger bag" mode slides over the top of my Dropzone for easy double pad carrying.

I have this same pad, and with just the shoulder strap, carrying it can be kinda awkward at times if the ground is really rocky. it likes to slide around a lot. It is easy to take off and just carry by the handles whenever that happens though

Flashed used to have the best small mat ever, it was two small mats, one fit inside the other, and it zipped up like a duffel bag, with about 50L of stuff space inside. the ultimate Font pad. sadly they no longer make it, although i have 2. the next best thing is the Tanto from Flashed http://www.flashed.com/mats/index.html it's just a little baby to protect your butt at the start of a problem

I would recommend the Asana Dynomite. It holds up extremely well, great buckle closure system, top and bottom flaps to secure your gear.
