Does anybody know of any ice climbing in Arkansas? The temps will have been freezing for an entire week this weekend. If anybody knows of any locations, preferably close to I-40.

Hmm, seems to be out-of-print. At first I thought you might have been talking about the band: http://www.myspace.com/southernfriedice ;) Apparently they guy I am headed up there with knows of a couple water falls. He has climbed them years ago. I am just skeptical. The temps have been freezing all week and will continue to be freezing through the weekend. So it should be interesting.

I bet you know Rob Kinnerson. He called a friend of mine looking for a hostel. Drop me a line next time you come up, I almost always have space available. I tried to find out where your guys were heading, but couldn't connect the dots. I'll be heading toward the Buffalo in the morning to see what I find. There is a fat flow that forms up very rarely at Steele Creek that is a blast. I'll start there, and see what I find. I only found one spot at Lake Lincoln last week that was doable. Almost not worth the effort, but I was there. If any of you crazy SOB's want to head out tomorrow early, call me anytime. 479-502-1163

We are going to look at High Bank Falls in the morning. It's close to Cass. Not sure where we will go if there is nothing there. We are to far south to hit the Buffalo. We may end up looking around Mt. Magazine.

Big, fat blow-out. My two closest friends bailed on me because they are too tightly attached to their vag... Anyway, all I did was drive down to the Buffalo and cry. Oh, and misjudge the depth of the water and hike around all morning with wet feet. Lots, and lots of ice down there, but nobody to hold my rope. :(

I might get back out in a bit if I can find someone to go. I posted several routes climbed back in the 80's that I got out of a hand-written guide given to me by a very old friend. I have climbed Singapore Women down at Steele - a rare treat.. Check it out under Arkie ice.

Southern Fried Ice is still in print. You can buy it directly from the author at http://www.coolclimbing.com

Here are a couple pics We also found several 45-60ft flows close to the OCT. I'm not sure where we were though. One guy in our group just directed. I know we drove to the top of some mountain to find them. They where all super steep, we only got to climb one line though. One sat in the sun to long and I started to climb it and pulled a huge sheet out from the rock at the start of the climb, too bad too because the ice further up was great. Same problem with the other route. It was really good up higher but the lower part was sketchy. We saw stuff that way me worth checking out again in February though, but I doubt I will go back because now I want to head to Ouray and try the real thing.
