I went to Haycock mountain with a friend today looking for Hanger 18. I was using the directions from http://www.paclimbing.com/...er_18_guide_page.htm. We found the parking lot described on this site, but then it says to hike the obvious trail to the boulders. We looked around for almost an hour and found no obvious trails or boulders. Where the directions told us to go was right in the middle of the disc golf course. Could anyone tell me either how to get to Hanger 18 from this parking lot or directions there from another lot? Thanks.

You may want to go to the main Haycock areas and veer over to the Caves area. After the Caves continue past and left on a trail. This will also bring you to Hanger 51.

Basically the area is between where you parked and the Caves.

If Im not mistaken, the directions have you park after the overpass. You need to then walk back the way you drove in until you get to the gated road (it will be on your right coming from the parking area). You then cross a small stream and head up the dirt road. There will be a water tower up there and the trail is on your left before you get to the tower. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I had no trouble finding it when I went back with your directions.

I keep hearing of landmarks such as this overpass and a water tower, but I couldn't find either the last 2 times I went out there. What road did you park on to get in there? I too have been lost the last two times I went, and I'm REALLY looking forward to getting the opportunity to climb there. Your input would really help! :-)

Trying to find the caves when you don't know your way around the cock is a great way to get lost for a few hours.

great advice roclimb!

Honestly, I'm just trying to find ANYWHERE to climb at the cock. I don't care if it's the caves, hanger 18, anything would be fine! I couldn't locate any boulders the last time I was there, so some advice on the trail in would be super helpful. Any pointers roclimb or funk?

it's too hard to explain without walking it in person....

The best answer would be to park at the Top Rock road parking area, follow the trail 15 minutes uphill and you'll be surrounded by boulders.

otherwise contact the Doylestown Rock Gym and see if they have copies of Char's new fancy glossy guide book. it comes complete with GPS coordinates.

Awesome pointer on the guide book, I'll do that for sure! That's so strange, the last time we were there, we parked at top rock. There was 2 trails we could enter in, one that as wide open more so toward the right, and one that was sort of grown in, much tighter, and a little to the left of the gate. Which of the two would you recommend? Also, we hike straight up the path on the right for about 30 minutes and it eventually reached a dead end... or so it looked in the summer.

Left Trail. Right's a fire road that will take you nowhere as you have learned.
