WD-40 & Screamers?

I keep my screws & Screamers in the same mesh bag. The screws are kept in Grivel Ice Flutes & the Screamers just stuffed in next to them in a synthetic mesh bag.

Between climbing trips I spray WD-40 on the screws for rust protection and let them sit for a couple of days and then pack it all up and store in the Action Packer Box till next trip.

Do you think the thin layer of WD-40 on the screws or its off-gassing could damage the Screamers (or any other slings, etc) in the Action Packer?

You could just air dry your screws.

The only time I apply any oil to my ice gear is if there is noticeable surface rust at the end of the season. If there is I clean them, and lightly oil them before storing till the next alpine or ice trip. Other than that, air drying is all the gear needs... unless you live in a very humid environment.

Ditto That. It's pretty much a non-issue unless you live in a salty, humid coastal environment. Or, if you Reeeeeeeaaaaalllly need to satisfy your control freak nature of wanting to take immaculate care of your screws....WD40 em, wipe em down with a paper towel, let em sit out for 24 hrs, and then put em away.
Better yet, get titanium screws.
Better still, take up freesoloing ice. Just you and a pair of tools. And Mr Gravity.

The nylon in the Screamers will not be affected by WD-40.

Thanks, I lube'm then wipe'm then let them sit in a cardboard box with my crampons & tools for a couple of days and then store them. Just thought I'd check! (Everyone seems to be decking lately, so I did a complete gear check sorting thru new & old & it just got me thinkingWink)

God Bless

I noticed some axle rust on my .5 Camelot and BD tech support told me to clean it with a little WD and that it wouldn't degrade the slings. As long as you wipe a way the excess and let it air dry, it should be a problem.
