Hi Im new here. Im climbing for about 5 years, but after a leg injury this summer I just started training for the rock again about 3 months ago. After last weekend (ice climbing in very cold conditions, few sleep) I cached a cold. Today is the first day I dont feel really sick (though my throat still hurts a bit and my nose isnt completely free) and at the same time I have the strong desire to do some pull ups (I feel very stiff). Should I wait a bit longer? I dont wanna loose strength and the same time I want to get rid of the cold as fast and complete as possible. Thanx for any advise!

If there are hard and fast rules, I would like to learn myself. However, I don't think there are. I am betting that if you are struck by a strong urge to do pull-ups, you are probably over the cold and won't hurt yourself. But scale things down a bit. Listen to your body and don't over-do stuff. Last winter I had a bad cold, and I thought I was mostly over it, just a bit stuffed... there was a climbing comp I was looking forward to, so I decided to do it... three days later I was down with bronchitis, double ear infection and sinus infection. Could have been a co-incidence, of course...

Thanx! I know there is no clear answer on this. I wont do anything tonight, but prob. do some moderate training tomorrow morning.

my conditioning coach is a firm believer in not training as soon as you feel yourself starting to get sick, and returning to training once you feel like you are over it. there is generally no point to "toughing it out" you just make your body weaker and increase the chances of getting injured and prolonging the illness.
