I'm planning a trip to Pinnacle Peak near Scottsdale AZ and I need a cheap place to camp. Anyone know of any spots? All I can find is the kook RV spots for like $30 a night.

Maybe you can camp in the driveway of a multi-million dollar home at the base of the mountain. For the drive time, I'd go to Tucson instead.

ohh btw just thought i let you know you can camp in the national forest pretty much for free but your supposed to buy a pass from a gas station. Its just North of Scottsdale and you can buy a pass from most gas stations there.

If you want free camping near Pinnacle Peak and the McDowells just continue driving east on Dynamite Blvd/Rio Verde Drive to its end at Forest Road. The paved road runs right, you go left on dirt. Drive to the river and find a primitive camp site near the Verde River. It is a short 20 minute drive from Pinnacle Peak. Have fun.
