Ya, but can you do it without a sling, and only enough cord to make a single thread when the hook on your abalakov hooker has broken off?

True story.

Nice video and good tip.

I have hitherto not been a fan of your posts, but I have to give you props for this one.

Good tip.

The tip is between 4:50 and 5:20 or so in the video.

What size cord are you using? I'd guess 6 mm.

Lately, I've been threading my 8mm climbing rope directly into the hole and pulling it through with an 8mm Dyeema runner.

Peeps are telling me that they are doing this more and more. My problem would be that there is a chance of the rope freezing in. Cold ice x wet rope + couple guys rapping=? Depending on the route could make for a long night out.

Mike (at least that's your alter ego), have you thought about adding a video of an I-thread through a curtain? That's about the only time I would consider a direct thread through the ice with a rope (not cord/webbing)... perhaps you could add a Kabob recipe in that one.

See ya around the rockies.

Ya, that was my concern as well. But as with every other climbing technique, it has it's place in the appropriate conditions. Before the last climber raps, someone can check the pull. The advantage is that you don't leave any trash on route.

Yes

Now that mikebarter387 deleted his posts, I'm curious what he had to say.
