What's best in early spring? check the weather for Linville Falls, NC. typically it's 40s to 60s depending on the year (looking closer to the 40s side of things this year). probably not iced over or anything like that though. however, the gate on Table Rock Road is probably closed. (call the Grandfather Mountain Ranger District to check though.) That means an extra mile hike up the road to the parking lot tacked onto the approach. Also, note that most of the NC Wall is closed due to peregrine nesting this time of year. Table Rock and the Amphitheater are both open though. Table Rock faces east and the Amphitheater has a north facing and south facing side. can't speak for Moore's; never been. If you're just looking for some cool multipitch, Shortoff doesn't have that pesky road closure problem. It faces westerly and you can generally chase the sun. the grades are stiffer there though. the South Side of Looking Glass is also an option with many 2 and 3 pitch lines. it tends to seep after rain though. finally, Rumbling Bald has some multipitch, but mostly single pitch lines. it is south facing, quite warm in the winter/spring (relatively speaking), and generally dries out fairly quickly.

Fantastic info here, thanks for the reply. I am part of another group, we are thinking of heading down to NC to climb in the next few days. The weather for Linville Falls looks ok, at least its going to be dry. If anyone local wants to meet up, theres beer in it for you

Table Rock road is not probably closed, but definitely closed. Linville Gorge climbing would suck right now. 2.5 hours to the Amphitheater! Might as well hike into Laurel Knob and get better climbing. Moore's Wall is frozen. Helmets won't save you from falling ice. Stick to Stone, the Bald, Looking Glass (road closed), Crowders, Pilot, or Laurel. Anything else until it stays in the 60's for a while is just lunacy.
