I know you can find out a lot of information online but there is nothing like getting advice from the horses mouth. One of my new years resolutions is to climb the Matterhorn. Has anyone here done it and can elaborate on the following please: - Time of day / year to go and avoid the worst cues & crowds. - Go fully prepared or go light and fast? - Other than the Hörnligrat route would you advise on another? - What to include in your rack? Cheers guys Tim

- start early, realy realy early / its crowded the whole year, in winter less - depends on your abilities - zmuttgrat - ovomaltine choclate, helmet (+ the usual high alpine stuff, you go far above 4000 meters) unless you dont choose to take a winter ascent in bad weather on the hörnligrat or go through the northface or another real difficult route, you will never not be stuck in traffic. on difficult routes there are always other parties en route but might not come into your way. expect the rescue helicopter to fly in and out all day long. idit: spelling
