Hola I am going to be in the Dolomites in June. We intend to do some Via Ferratas and also climb. I was wondering if anyone can recommend some good routes in both disciplines, especially I am interested in the climbs that you have done that have good pro and are in the 5.6 5.8 range. Beta will be greatly appreciated. sama

I went to Cortina which has a 2,000' 5.7 arete right above town and several interesting Via Ferata's in the area. Home to a Winter Olympics. I think the Dolomite's are the world's best mountains.

Im worthless at the moment. My books are buried in storage but Im sure you can find stuff on line and figure it out. (Quick FYI; Cortina is the same as something like Cortina D'Empezzo). I have two Dolomite photos on my profile. Check out Messner's castle between Cortina and Venice. Have fun!

thanks! I already have some books and there are a couple of websites with some insights. I was hoping for specific Beta to avoid some of the routes that lead to trouble,. for ex. I have a friend that finished an interesting route only to find themselves with no rappel rings and had to be rescued. all seemed so perfect! anyway, thanks for the tip about Messners castle. I will be staying in a cabin about 20 minutes out of Cortina. sam |

one thing.. there is a good guidebook about the most beautiful climbs in the dolomites.. it's written by bernardi. The guy has quite a unique perspective on rock quality.. So if you happen to pick up a guidebook from him: If he sais the rock is good, it's OK, if he says the rock is OK, it's a little brittle here and there If he says it's a little brittle here and there, it will break everywhere. If he says it's brittle, you don't want to go there edited to add: if you happen to be in the sella region, climb on the sella towers, really good, good protection.. Loved climbing there have fun! (maybe see you around, I'll be there in august)
