To start the new quarter off right, I took off on my solo roadtrip on a whim to join friends of a friend at Smith Rock OR. The rain clouds clung to the pass, and I was greeted with the sun as I entered Eastern OR. When I got there, this is what I found: This place was starting to feel like home. I met 12 new people, all from WWU, all awesome. We had quite the climbing party.
Ahh! When can I go back??
Fun 5.9. I forget what wall we were on.
View from the Student Wall on Day 2.
5.11 somethin lead climb; this guy kicked ass and took names alllll day.
So did this guy.
Amazing trip, so glad I decided to get out and go. Good weather, good people, good beer, and great climbing. Now time to get back to my 2nd love: chemistry. From climbing to taking ochem, ochem lab, ecology, and research (I get to synthesize and study anti cancer compounds!). Ohhhh what a wonderful life.

Awesome! Yeah, I highly recommend it. A wide variety of routes, different rock types, and all in a beautiful place. If you ever make it there, be sure to go to the Deschutes Brewery in Bend. They brew some damn good beer. Perfect after a long day at the rocks (where to find good beer=the best travel tip :D ).

Hey thanks! We stood there squeaking at that guy for a few minutes, he just stood up..."Hey, yeah, take a picture, see if I care!" Those marmots have no fear. And neither do geckos; saw one scramble up a V12 boulder problem in 5 seconds flat. Where can we get grip like that?? Yes, def get out to Smith. It's wonderful.

Cold, at or below freezing. We had plastic jugs with frozen water in the mornings. Overnight temps are going to be chilly for awhile, but manageable with a good fire and a good cold weather sleeping bag.
