Mountain Project knows when your are viewing from an iPhone and has a good layout. I employed it when my husband (and a certain other person in this thread ) called me from the top of Epinephrine asking if I knew how to get down.

GO I wrote that in jest, but really, I bet that any Yosemite question posted there would get a knowledgeable and legitimate response. The bottom line is that a ton of people have experience in the big ditch. Get comfortable posting somewhere, learn to separate the jerks from the valued resources, and post your question. That being said, I would ask on the Taco first.

Each on it's own merit. If it is knowledge on a subject so benign that it can be asked at any and all locations, including the local gear store, even though ST is YV based, you would probably yield the best responses elsewhere. None of them want to bother with the what time do I need to get my reservation for camp 4 type of questions. If the inquiry was very information specific, and of interest to a regular, the info gotten on ST could be second to none. Troll there and you will be insulted in ways you never thought of before. Not one of them likes to just waste time posting mundane, no one cares stuff. If you need the rack for a route not frequented or topo'd, these may be your guys and gals. Serious talent posts regularly. MP also has some very avid YV regulars, as does a few here. I know I have met many regulars to several forums, some not even mentioned in the "Big 3" while on one of my regular visits to the valley. The shorter answer is it depends. If crutial and critical, maybe here, probably MP, and even possibly ST. Bob

No. Mainly because you were insisting that you were at the summit and you weren't.

agdavis wrote: For detailed Yosemite questions, which forum tends to provide the best info? Define "detailed" or simply, just ask the question here and see what kind of answers you get. Like someone said, if you ask about where are the best campsites on ST, no one will give you the time of day. OTOH, if you want to know the best combination of hooks needed for the 2nd pitch of South Seas or the anchor condition on the Reticent....

D'oh! I've been outed! In my defense, I memorized the descent description from my guidebook: "Walk up and left to the highest summit..." Okay, we did that. Took a bunch of photos and wasted a lot of the remaining light. "then follow the ridge down to the top of Whiskey Peak." Uhhhh.... where's Whiskey Peak? Hmm... I see a lot of ridges. Aren't there supposed to be cairns we follow? Let's find a cairn. G

Supertopo: You'll get your question answered, but you'll have to find your answer buried in pages of circle jerking about how much better things were in the glory days, and accusations that you are a gumby for asking for beta on the internet, and you lack climbing ethics. RC.com: You MIGHT get your question answered, but you won't see it, because the meatbombz and random in-jokes will leave you so confused and frustrated that you decide to just go climb at the gym Mountain project: Eh, I don't ever read there, it's boring.

It wouldn't have been such a big deal, we could have bivvied and found our way down fine on our own in the morning, except that I had a flight to catch early in the AM. Thank you VTG, you're my hero, and saved us from our supreme gumbitude! GO

If you've got a lot of time to sift through garbage, maybe ST. Otherwise, MP is the way to go.
