Mike was the climber who fell at Darkside, Red River Gorge, KY last Saturday April 17. He died today at 2 pm at the U of K Hospital in Lexington of his head injury. He was 27 years old. From the Facebook page set up to support him and his family this past week:

It is my unwelcome obligation to pass along the following:
"God came for Mike at about 2pm today. He passed as he lived--a peaceful man. Arrangements will be forthcoming and we will post them as soon as they are finalized.
Thank you for all of your prayers. Mike's Family"

So sad to hear this. This really hits home. I decked this winter from roughly 30 feet shattering my wrist and fracturing my tailbone. I've been depressed about not being able to climb and workout ever since. I see now how self centered that is and how I am so lucky that it wasn't much worse. RIP Mike and much strength and love to your family and friends in this time of grief.

Oh man, talk about one of the nicest guys ever to walk the earth, Mike sure was one of them.
Got to meet Mike in Hueco a few years back and I really remembered how good natured and easy going this fella was. He used tall man beta like me and never boasted of his prowess.
Hope you all can find it in your hearts to climb one for Mike next time your out, I'm sure he would appreciate it.
May peace be with him as it carried with him in life, my condolences to his family and hundreds of friends Mike has made in his short 28 years.

Mike was one of those people who quietly helped out and took care of things and never expected to be hailed as a hero for doing it.
Mike got along with everyone, and kids loved him-- which means something, because kids can feel what kind of a person they are dealing with.
Mike, was the strong climber who would genuinely cheer you on your project even though it was his warm-up.
Mike was the rare tall climber who really got short-person beta, and what a good beta it was, too... Mike met my whiny "I cannot" with confident "yes, you can"-- and then showed me how.
"Climb safe, have fun"-- were the last words Mike said to me on Saturday morning as he headed out to the Darkside. I will try.
Mike will stay in our memory. May he rest in peace, and may comfort come to his family and friends.

Lena is absolutely correct in her description of Michael. Him and I started our climbing endeavors together our freshmen year of high school and continued until the day of his accident. Never in the 15 years that I knew Mike did anyone ever say a bad word about this guy. He lived his love life like he climbed; strong, balanced, deliberately, passionately, and with honesty and love. Although we were the same age (he was 11 days older) I learned a lot from Mike and am still learning from Mike. Mike was the kind of guy who you would never know how strong he was until you watched him climb. He never talked about himself and all the ridiculous sends he logged all the country and in Europe. He let his climbing do the talking and when he wasn't working on a project he was helping someone else with theirs. I will never forget my friend Michael Tucker.

i met mike during my second year of graduate school when he transferred law schools. we became friends through climbing, and with three others, were roommates last year.
what i've learned over the past two weeks is that there were more dimensions to mike than i ever could have imagined. i knew mike as a climber and law student. on more than one occasion, he reminded me that there were more important things in life than climbing. while i brooded over being buried in my own graduate work, i was motivated by mike's tireless effort toward his professional goals. try as i may, i rarely managed to stay up later or rise earlier to study than he did.
that said, i also knew mike as a passionate rock climber. at times, i'd grow frustrated as he pushed me to try a climb or boulder problem i felt was beyond me. it took me awhile to see things his way--that through dedication, effort, and vision, anything is possible. despite his grueling schedule, mike managed to stay in top physical condition. on the rare occasions he was able to take the time to climb outdoors, he climbed as though he made it out every weekend.
over the past two weeks, i've had the privilege to see mike through other's eyes--as a son, a sibling, a professional colleague, a childhood friend. despite the countless roles he filled, he made you feel as though you were one of his dearest, closest friends. i don't know where he found the energy to make everyone feel so special.
over the past 2-3 years, mike became a dear friend. i'll miss everything about our friendship--the mutually good-natured, sarcastic digs at each other; the occasional debate/bickering; the random text messages i'd receive cross-country early in the morning from him. he'll live on through the thousands of lives he's touched.
we love and miss you, mike.

Mike, I never knew you well, but I was always impressed by how modest and welcoming you were to everyone. I remember flipping through your photo album at the gym surprised at how well you climb and imagining how one day I may climb better and go to some of the beautiful places I saw. You actually seemed exited to help me with beta and see me send bouldering problems when I could barely get up even the easiest bouldering problems around.
I can't believe you are gone; you will be missed.
