Georgia student dies from fall in Tallulah Gorge

There's a brief piece in the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

http://www.ajc.com/...ies-from-512523.html

Anyone else have further? Article alludes that the victim was in the middle of a multiple climber rope team.... not very clear on the specifics. Can't really picture the set-up.

Very sad no matter the cause.

I posted this yesterday and a mod send it to recycling. anyway, i heard (not 100% confirmed) his parents just got the climbing gear for him before the accident.

He was a friend of mine and the others involved are some of my closest climbing partners. Out of respect for them, I would prefer that any sort of debate, aka what happened with Mike Tucker, could wait until everyone has had sufficient time to heal.

The gear referenced in the article, was a new helmet which Josh was not wearing during the accident. If you are ever conflicted about whether or not to wear a helmet on a climb, please err on the side of caution. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.

The UGA climbing wall crew is very close-knit, and even thought I never got to meet Josh, I feel for his family and all you guys who knew and climbed with him.

My condolences for the loss of your friend. From all accounts, he sounded like a fine person, and I'm certain he is missed greatly.

Climbing

In the pursuit of life and joy it is a double edged sword.

We lose a brother we may not have known except he was like us and doing what we do.

To those who knew him best

I hope in time the joy of his life may overshadow his unexpected departure.
