Hey, what's the Midnight Lightning lightning bolt made of? I always assumed it was some sort of paint, but the pic below kinda makes it look like chalk, which would entail an impressive amount of tradition to maintain.

I thought there was some tradition where you get to chalk the lightning bolt when you send it.

It's just chalk. I don't know who gets to touch it up. I didn't mess with it when I fell futilely from the problem over and over again.

chalk. That part of the boulder doesn't seem to get wet very often. I've never seen anyone touching it up, but it looks like that all the time.

It's tradition to run a finger of chalk over it once before attempting to send for good luck.

It gets a swipe of chalk maybe a couple dozen times every day.

If it only got touched up when someone sent, it would be a dull lightning bolt. At least as far as I've ever observed.
