Was at T-Wall this past weekend and my truck and 2 other groups of climbers vehicles were broken into. Put valuables in your trunk or take them with you. This includes other gear...They stole camping gear and climbing gear from the 3 vehicles. The Deputy told all of us the best thing to do is to have your vehicle just empty of stuff. Evidently these hoodlums focus on snagging gear.

Sorry to hear about your car and gear. Post up a list of stolen items so we can keep an eye out for it.

Who knows, you might just catch the mofo's.

In the scheme of it all I was the most fortunate of the 3 cars. They just got a backpack and sleeping bag and a few runners and maybe a few biners, a fleece and shirt and some socks. They did also take my toothbrush and toothpaste but the other 2 cars were hit hard. Tents and sleeping bags/pads, cook stoves, as well as caving gear, ropes, and other gear. Not really sure what they had stolen in all but it was a long list of stuff.

A bit off subject but how were the temps? I'd like to go but was thinking it would be too hot.

Not too bad...I think it was in the low 80's that day.
But beware of ticks. They are crazy bad this year. We probably pulled 20 or so off each of us... 2 had bitten me.

Thanks for the weather beta. A few years back they actually set a trap and caught one of the thieves but obviously not all of them. Of course if you leave a 6 pack and a note asking them not to break into the car a fellow climber will likely snag the 6 pack. Were there other cars not broken into? My experience there has been to manually lock all in the trunk during the day and keep goodies out of sight. Still this problem will likely continue. I'd like to know if anything was ever learned about the cause of the forest fires around 2006?

Thanks for the heads up on the ticks as I'm headed there this weekend. I've always wanted to climb there but am afraid of getting my car broken into...gonna be pissed if that happens!

Have fun! T Wall is awesome.
There were 2 vehicles that had not been broken into.
They had nothing in the car. Like the Deputy told us...
put everything in the trunk or take it with you.

If you're coming from TN, leave everything at home or don't bring anything you can't fit in the trunk. You're not going to want to carry anything you don't have to up the hill, and leaving anything valuable in the car will make you nervous all day to the point of not enjoying the kickass climbing. Also, +1 on the ticks. Motherfuckers were vicious there a couple of weeks ago.

I'm pleased to say that I followed everyone's advice last weekend and there were no breakins. I think it helped that there were quite a few people camping right there that weren't climbers. I will note that the ticks and chiggers are voracious! I sprayed down with some insect repellant prior to heading up there, but I think it wore off somewhere between 9 am and 5:30 pm cause I am ate up! Unsure It was worth it though and I'll definitely be going back there again.

I suppose it is helpfull to park close to the crag rats who stock their cars with booze in sight for the red necks, and hang around camp, hung over, until noon.
