Route Tape Suggestion

I am doing some purchase orders for my gym and I am wondering what everyone uses for route tape now.

We have always used the Bron pseudo-duct tape and have usually had good results with it. Problems are when it gets humid the adhesive fails, and even without the humidity the adhesive wears off after a while.
Plus when we have ordered from Bron in the past we had to bulk order tape and were unable to choose the colors individually.

One of our setters suggested some kind of colored cloth tape but was unable to name a producer.

Typical cloth tape is going to leave a gooey adhesive residue on the wall when it is removed.

The 1" gaffer tape on the link Ax provided looks perfect. No residue, non-reflective(so the color stays true no matter where the light source is), 1" wide and easy to tear.

We do occasionally get a roll where the glue isn't right, but 99% of the time it works great.
On the rough texture parts of our wall you have to press it firm and it sticks excellent. On smooth surfaces if you press it on it may never come off.

Same is true for both the duct and the gaffers tape there.

We just go to Wal-Mart and by Duck brand duct tape. Its 2” wide, we fold it on its self and reuse it over and over. They have a bunch of different colors and some distinctive ones like leopard and camouflage. They also have a red and blue tie die; we use the red for a hard gym traverse and the blue for an easier one. The one down side to the reusable tags is if the setter doesn’t set the tag right the tags fall out, we get one or two a week but we put a hold count on the route tags so it’s not too hard to figure out where it goes.

somewhat ironic, my boss ordered the gaffer tape from identi-tape then went to wal-mart and got a few rolls of 2" tape when he realized he waited too long

I second the recommendation of gaffer tape.

It's been over two years... I think they've found some tape by now.

Unimpressed

Not to mention that duct tape does not stick very well to climbing wall and leaves a residue.

A little late on this one, but check out Bron tape. They make some route-specific tape that works really well. We have even used it to hang pretty heavy banners on the wall with no problem. Not sure what kind of deal they will cut you, but I know that they offer something like 5% off to CWA members if that applies to you.

Gaffers tape is the way to go. These guys have been good to me and they have economy gaffers priced pretty competitvely,
